Wildlife Center

Last stop:

Please don't pet the wildlife...

Wild Horse Museum

Before leaving the lighthouse, we stopped at the little schoolhouse that serves as the headquarters for the Corrolla Wild Horse Preservation and Fund.  We learned that Spanish ships' logs document horses being pushed overboard to refloat grounded ships; some swam ashore from the shipwrecks and others were left behind when colonies failed.  Today, the wild horses roam over 7,500 acres of off-road northern beaches.....if you ever see one be sure to leave it alone!  It's illegal and you can be fined $500 BUT if you go to this schoolhouse, they give tours!

HORSE!

HORSE Again!

Currituck Lighthouse

162 feet tall......214 steps......the only lighthouse not painted on the Outer Banks and it also has it's original lens; the largest one on the Banks!

Did I mention 162 feet?
